He was honorably discharged on May 16, 1946. After six months, he went to work for Southern Bell for 39 years and saw it through many phases of change. He was always eager to attend classes and courses to broaden his knowledge of the communication trade. He willingly passed on his abilities to his co-workers and peers and until recently would be called upon by his friend R.D. Desoto for advice. His love of nature was instilled in him by his father while growing up on the Turner Family Farm on the corner of Bank Ave. and Admiral Doyle Drive. He passed on his love of animals and passion for growing vegetables to his son and daughters. "Rusty" was also an avid sportsman in his younger healthier days. He loved fishing with his brothers and son and hunted with a close friend, John Viator as well as his son, Russell. He was a very devoted LSU football fan and never gave up on the New Orleans Saints. Another past time was watching old westerns, particularly those with John Wayne. In his lifetime, he always strove for perfection in all things. He always instilled in his children and grandchildren to "do their absolute best at everything they set their hand to" as he did in his lifetime. He left us all with the strength to be brave and carry on. Rusty was a member of Communication Workers of America and Telephone Pioneers of America.
