New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 11:30am on Friday, January 11, 2019 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Iberia for Ruth deBlanc Pratt, 97, who passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 in New Iberia.
Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery in New Iberia.
Rev. Charles Langlois will be the Celebrant.
Readers for the Mass include Sandra deBlanc and Nancy Richard. Gift bearers are Donna Morel, Cathy Degroat, and Virginia Segura.
A gathering of family and friends will be St. Peter's Catholic Church on Friday from 9:30 am until the Rosary begins at 11:00 am.
Ruth deBlanc Pratt was born in New Iberia, LA on January 29, 1921 to the late Louis Cyrus and Eugenie Lacour deBlanc. She was a graduate of Mt. Carmel Academy and attended SLI in Lafayette. Ruth loved family, and especially looked forward to hosting her brother, Msgr. Irving A. deBlanc, at holiday meals. Ruth was a gifted cook, a skill learned from her mother. Ruth's mother, an avid bridge player, taught her how to play bridge at a very early age. It was a passion she enjoyed until she was 93. Ruth was a devout member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and enjoyed her Fortnightly friends. Ruth and husband Sparky always put family first. Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She referred to her children as her "jewels." She will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Mrs. Pratt is survived by a daughter, Connie Pratt Rougeou of New Iberia; sons, Arthur William Pratt, Jr., Edward A. Pratt and wife Jean Pratt of Lafayette, and Irving A. Pratt and partner Alicia Bienvenu of New Iberia; 11 grandchildren William Pratt, Brian Pratt, Philip Pratt, Remi Jenkins, Kristi Artigues, Pam Bernard, Will Bernard, Stephanie Hollingsworth, Donna Morel, Virginia Segura, and Cathy Degroat; 26 great grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Arthur William “Sparky” Pratt; sisters, Margie Hebert, Evelyn Nalty, and Vivian Porter; brothers, Msgr. Irving A. deBlanc, Carroll deBlanc, and infant brother Louis Cyrus deBlanc, Jr.; granddaughter, Ruth Bernard Hebert; and son-in-law, Dr. Clyde Rougeou.
Pallbearers will be Edward Pratt, Irving Pratt, Brian Pratt, Philip Pratt, William Pratt and Will Bernard.
Honorary pallbearers include Cyrus deBlanc, Jim Hollingsworth, Sidney Artigues, David Degroat, Carig Morel, Todd Segura, Tom Porter, Ferdie Hebert, Leonard Nalty, and Minos Landry.
A heartfelt appreciation is extended by the Pratt family to Theresa Wagner, her personal caregiver, and the entire staff of excellent caregivers at Consolata Home, especially Ms. Betty Bernard and Darrell Merrill. A special thank you to Dr. Mike Alvarez, Dr. George Cousin, Dr. Ned Dauterive, and Dr. Jose Mata.
