Ruth Benoit Mooney

New Iberia - Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, August 10, 2007, at St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia, for Ruth Benoit Mooney, 87, who died on Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at her residence, in New Iberia. Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery, in New Iberia. The Rev. Gary Schexnayder will officiate at the funeral Mass. Mrs. Mooney was very active in the Home Demonstration, Garden Club, and the Women's Club. ?She served with the Dauterive Hospital Pink Ladies Auxiliary for many years. She is survived by one son, Shelby Avant, Jr., of New Iberia; three daughters, Roberta Sellers and her husband, Gary, Sr., of Humble, TX, Marlene Theriot and her husband, Ronald, of Houston, TX, and Barbara Desselle and her husband, Lynn, Sr., of Lafayette; one brother, Arsane Benoit, of Laurel, MS; three sisters, Laura Bohnson and Louise McCall, both of Vinton, LA, and Aline Fontenot, of Lake Charles, LA; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Shelby D. Avant, Sr.; her second husband, M. H. Mooney; her parents, Alcee and Elia Bouquet Benoit; four brothers, Eraste, Ren?, Lawrence, and Robert Benoit; and two sisters, Agnes Johnson and Edna Bruno. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd., New Iberia, LA 70562; and continue at 9:00 a.m. on Friday until time of service. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening. Pallbearers will be, Nicholas Sellers, Jeremy Sellers, Benjamin Sellers, Lynn Desselle, Jr., Alex Theriot, and Bobby Avant. Honorary pallbearer will be Ivan Landry. Memorial donations, in her name, may be made to any one of the following organizations, M.D. Anderson Hospital, 1515 Holcombre Blvd., Houston, TX ?77030; Make-A-Wish Foundation - TX/LA Chapter, 1604 Bissonnet, Houston, TX 77005; or to, AAA Hospice of New Iberia, 2111 Hwy. 14, New Iberia, LA 70560.
