New Iberia - Sallie T. Vanhaverbeke, 51, died Thursday, January 8, 2009 at her residence following a lengthy battle with cancer.
A native of Franklin and a resident of New Iberia, Ms. Sallie worked at Rick's IGA, Richard's IGA, Franklin Cigar and Tobacco in Franklin and Conrad Rice Mill of New New Iberia during her career. She enjoyed reading and her heart and door was always open helping her loved ones. She was loved by everyone who knew her and will forever be remembered for her laughter, smile and kindness.
She is survived by her 13 year old daughter, Katie T. Vanhaverbeke; her siblings, Joe Paul Vanhaverbeke, Jr., and wife Holly of Lafayette, Regina Duncan and husband Neil of Lydia, David Vanhaverbeke and wife Anna of Baton Rouge, Doretta St. Martin and husband Eddie of New Iberia, Roy Vanhaverbeke of Lafayette, Tony Vanhaverbeke and wife Tammy of New Iberia, Ted Vanhaverbeke of Carencro, Judy Vanhaverbeke of New Iberia and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Paul Vanhaverbeke Sr. and Ruth Davis Vanhaverbeke of Franklin.
The family and friends will have a private gathering to celebrate her life on Saturday January 10, 2009. In lieu of sending flowers, the family members request that memorial donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Suite 200, Lafayette, Louisiana, 70503, since they were of great help and comfort to the family during this trying time.
