New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia for Samuel Lee Cartimiglia, Sr., 86, who died Sunday, March 31, 2013, in New Iberia.
Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery.
Rev. Gary Schexnayder will be the Celebrant. Readings will be proclaimed by Arlene Granger and Tracy Badeaux. Gift bearers will be Sammy and Philip Cartimiglia.
A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday from 9:30 AM until 1:30 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 10:30 AM, followed by a eulogy given by Trevis Badeaux.
Born on October 23, 1926 in New Iberia, Samuel was the son of Sam and Angelina Pecararo Cartimiglia, both of Italy. A veteran of the U. S. Army, Samuel was a dairy farmer, and retired from the Iberia Parish School Board after 26 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and grandchildren, and his hobbies included playing softball, watching baseball, tending to his pigeons and spending time in his garden.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara 'Bobbie' Badeaux Cartimiglia, his sons, Sammy Cartimiglia, Jr., (Jami Hebert), ;Philip Cartimiglia, (Tracy Mora); his sister, Angela C. Ariola; his sister in law, Joyce Cartimiglia; his grandchildren, Jenna Romero, husband Kalem, Taylor Mora and Collin Theriot.
In addition to his parents, Samuel was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Faye Cartimiglia; his sisters, Mary C. Polk, Bessie C. Williams and Josie C. Broussard; his brother, Louis Cartimiglia.
Pallbearers will be Sammy Cartimiglia, Jr., Philip Cartimiglia, Shane Viator, Kent Hebert, Thomas Briscoe, and David Broussard.
Honorary pallbearers include, George Ackal, Timothy Ackal, Sammy Ariola, Brent McDonald, and Albert Courteois.
The family would like to acknowledge the staffs of Nursing Specialty, and Dauterive Hospital.
Samuels family would also like to give special thanks to Dr. Brad Roth, who was not only his physician, but a close personal friend. His extraordinary care and compassion extended Samuels life for several years which he enjoyed with his family.
