New Iberia ;- A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Iberia for Samuel Donald Moreau, 77, who died Friday, May 22, 2009 in New Iberia. ; Entombment will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum. ; Rev. Charles Langlois will be the Celebrant. Readers will be Morgann "Maggie" McKethan and Elliott Gabriel. Gift Bearers include Harrison Bouton and Camille Andrus. ; Born on February 2, 1932 in Arnaudville, Mr. Moreau began his career with First National Life Insurance and retired as Agency Manager of Commonwealth Life Insurance, now known as Monumental Life, after 40 years of service. During his career he received numerous awards and honors, including his Life Underwriters Training Council Fellowship. He was an usher at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, and was very active at St. Peter's Catholic Church as a Lay Minister and in other ministries of the church. Mr. Moreau was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Perpetual Help Council 3425, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. ; An avid horseman, he enjoyed raising quarter horses and was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association. Mr. Moreau enjoyed camping and traveling in his motorhome across the United States and Canada. He also enjoyed the fellowship during his cardiac rehab at Iberia Medical Center. ; Some of Mr. Moreau's familiar quotes are "Save your money because one day you might want to buy something" and "Now is not the time to panic". ; Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Walters Moreau of New Iberia; son, Michael Gagne and wife Katherine of Flower Mound, TX; daughters, Elizabeth Gabriel and husband Nicholas of Vacaville, CA, Connie Dowell and husband Michael ;of McKinney, TX, Claire Andrus and husband Mattieu of Lafayette, Margaret Grosser and husband Peter of Burlington, Ontario, Canada, Ellen Bouton and husband Michael of Youngsville, Lydia Degueyter and husband Floyd of Lafayette, Alice Faul and husband Charles of Charenton; sister, Rosemary Moreau Richard of Rayne; brother, Ronald J. Moreau, Sr. of Lafayette; grandchildren, Morgann "Maggie" McKethan, Joshua Gabriel, Elliott Gabriel, Michael Faul, Lauren Faul, Tyler Dowell, Austin Dowell, Michelle Gagne, Chandler Gagne, Hailey Pitman, Marshall Pitman, Seth Andrus, Trent Andrus, Camille Andrus, Reid Bouton, Harrison Bouton, Kathryn Grosser, and Carolyn Grosser. ; He was preceded in death by his parents F.R. and Louise Rivette Moreau; brothers, Gerald Moreau, and Charles Raymond Moreau; former wife, Mary deGravelles Moreau. ; Pallbearers will be Mr. Moreau's grandsons and honorary pallbearers include his son and son-in-laws. ; In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be to the American Heart Association or to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital. ; The family would like to give special thanks to his loving wife Dorothy, his family, and his caretakers Diane Fuselier, and Warnadean Alvarez for their extraordinary care and compassion during his brief illness. ; A gathering of family and friends will be Monday from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Monday.
