Sister Sandra Lynn Simmons Hypolite was born on April 29, 1952 in Lafayette, Louisiana to the proud parents of Leo H. Simmons and Ceola Chambers Simmons. She transitioned from her early life into eternal rest on 7:18 am Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at the Lafayette General Hospital in Lafayette, LA. Sister Hypolite received many birthday gifts during her time on this earth, but this year she received the ultimate, priceless gift from our Lord and Saviorfreedom from all of her years of suffering and pain. No words can describe such a splendid gift for such a humble and prayerful woman.
She was preceded in death by her father, Leo H. Simmons and her husband Henry Hypolite.
Sister Hypolite was a graduate of Adam Carlson High School Class of 1970 and received her Bachelors Degree in Business Education from Southern University of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Sister Hypolite was a woman of strong faith in the Lord and his mercy and strength carried her through her good and challenging days. She served as a deaconess in Union Baptist Church and assisted in many other capacities throughout the church and Union Sixth District Baptist Association. She was also active in the community with Saint Martin Parish Chapter - AARP, Louisiana Association of Educators and Smile Community Action Agency.
Sister Hypolite was an educator of Business for over 30 years in the Saint Martin Parish School system, where all of her years were dedicated to the students of St. Martinville schools. She was known as Ms. Simmons to some and Ms. Hyp to others. This remarkable woman was well known for her humor, sassy wit and undying love for her family, friends and students. One may see her in the grocery store or post office and this short, feisty lady would greet them saying, Whats up girlfriend?! Or Where you been, Sha?! Better yet, you may state that she is looking well and ask her if shes been ok, and she would respond with her famous Fa Sho!! There was never an end to the laughter, comedy and tears of joy that Hyp would bring to all who were in her presence. So, if we think about being sad about her transition, let us hold on to the good memories and laughs that we were fortunate to share with her. Those will live on forever in our hearts.
Sister Hypolite leaves to cherish her memories: her daughter Tiffany A. Thomas of Zachary, Louisiana; Alisa (Jermaine) Sanders of Allen, Texas, and Trenese K. Hypolite of Allen, Texas; grandchildren Tahj Lamar Thomas, Talyn Laray Thomas and Jaxson Emery Sanders; mother, Ceola Chambers of St. Martinville, LA; siblings, Larry (Lynda) Simmons of Memphis, TN; Eddie (Tonya) Simmons of Summerville, SC and Janie (Eldridge) Celestine of Cade, LA. She also leaves to cherish her memories, a host of nieces, nephews, former students, beloved church family and close friends.
