Sharkita Ann Johnson

St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, November 15, 2008, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Sharkita Ann Johnson, 47, who passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2008 at Iberia Medical Center in New Iberia. Interment will follow at Union Baptist Cemetery in St. Martinville. Fr. Augustinus Seran S.V.D. will conduct the services. Gift bearers for the service will be Emmanuel Alvarado, MoJohnay S. Thibodeaux, Kayanti Marie Francis and Jeremy E. Thibodeaux. Jeanne' James and Courtney Joseph Neveu will serve as readers. Sharkita was a member of the Knights of Peter Clavier Ladies Auxiliary Court 53, a counselor of the Junior Daughters, founder of the Parks Children's Choir where she served as the Director, and she was also the Choir Director of the Early Morning Worshipers. Survivors include her daughter, Gloricika Lenairy Ann Johnson, of New Iberia; her mother, Gloria James, of New Iberia; and a sister, Ivonne Johnson Josey, of Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Johnson; her maternal grandparents, Morris James, Sr. and Lena Simon James; and her paternal grandparents, Murphy and Sodonia Johnson. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 4:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday and continue at 7 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Friday. Pallbearers: Calvin Johnson, Jr., Wallace and Darrell Wiltz, Harry Pickney, Ray Thomas Orphe, Jr. and Woodson Louis. Honorary pallbearers: Kirt Thibodeaux, Jr., Chris Louis, Edmond Fontenette, Jr., Jonathan N. Orphe', Jr., Glenn Delcourt, Nathaniel Hubbard, Jr., and Travis Anthony. Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville is in charge of arrangements.
