Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, May 3, 2024, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church for Shelton Joseph Williams, 66, who passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2024.
A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Breaux Bridge on Friday from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
A rosary will be prayed at 9:00 AM on Friday.
Rev. George Bede Ajuruchi, SSJ will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Reader will be Stacy Noel Campbell.
Interment will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery.
Shelton Joseph Williams, beloved horse trainer and jockey, was known for his exceptional talent with horses and his unwavering love for his family. Shelton was born on November 8, 1957, in Lafayette, where he began his remarkable journey through life.
Throughout his career, Shelton achieved great success in the world of horse racing. He spent most of his days on the racetrack, forming a deep bond with every horse he trained and rode. His proudest accomplishments included winning numerous races while riding his favorite horses, leaving a legacy that will be remembered by all who knew him.
Shelton's warm personality and kindness touched the lives of many. He was a first-class individual who earned the respect and admiration of everyone he met. His lively spirit lit up any room, making him the life of the party wherever he went. Those fortunate enough to know Shelton experienced his generosity firsthand - he would give the shirt off his back to those in need without hesitation.
In addition to his passion for horses, Shelton had a wide range of hobbies and interests that brought him joy. He loved to dance, travel, fish, shoot pool, cook delicious meals, hunt, and host family barbeques. His zest for life and adventurous spirit were truly infectious.
Shelton will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories that will forever be held close to the hearts of his surviving family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Broussard; daughters, Yvette (James George) Broussard, Lesley Broussard, Melinda (Joseph) Edmond, and Jessica Broussard; his son, Robert Frederick; brothers, Joseph Williams, Clinton Edmond, Henry Williams, Darrel Martinez, Edward Edmond, Jeffery Edmond, Brian Edmond, and Kenneth Williams; sisters, Mary Margaret Williams-Noel, Peggy Ellen (Chris) James, Marie (Beau) Matthew, Barbara Williams, Lisa Smith, and Christine (Telly Gordan) Edmond; and several grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jeffery Williams and Mary Elaine Edmond; brothers, Howard Edmond, Ricky Williams, and Patrick Williams; sisters, Brenda Williams and Patricia Williams; and his nephew, Miguel Edmond.
Pallbearers will be Joe Edmond, Arthur Edmond, Iyh'myod George, Ashley Edmond, Kevin Lee, and Jeffery Edmond.
