Breaux Bridge - A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Breaux Bridge for Sherman Darby, 63, who passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at his residence.The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Bethlehem Baptist Church from 7:30 am until 11:00 am on Saturday.Pastor Kelso will officiate at the Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Baptist Cemetery in Breaux Bridge."We are confident I say and willingly rather to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." 2 Corinthians 5;8. Sherman Darby who was born to the late Simon and Lorraine Darby on February 3, 1958. On Friday, July 16, 2021, God called his son home to rest in eternal glory. Sherman was a very dedicated and reliable church member at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Breaux Bridge. He served as a Deacon and on various church committees. Sherman held several jobs during his lifetime, working for Frito-Lay, Target, and where he was still currently employed with Southern Glazier Wine and Spirit for over 25 years of service. His co-workers will definitely miss "Uncle Sherm" as they called him. Sherman had a love for sports. He coached Basketball with the Lafayette Recreation League for several years. Through his love for coaching, he found a special friendship with Scottie Borel for over 21 years and Joseph "Shompy" Benoit whom he spoke to everyday and loved them dearly. He is survived by his loving wife, Lucinda Darby of Breaux Bridge; son, Derrick "Lil Jam" Darby of Baton Rouge; daughter, Miranda "Cookie" Darby of Baton Rouge; step-daughter, Raina Mason; three brothers, Melvin Darby of Fort Worth, TX, Leroy Darby (Margaret) of Youngsville and Kevin Darby of Breaux Bridge; sister, Shelia Darby of Lafayette; two nieces, Candace and Jalisa Darby; one great niece, Kenadie; two special friends, Scottie Borel (Rachel) of Breaux Bridge, Joseph Benoit (Regina) of Mesquite, TX.He was preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Lorraine Porter Darby. Pallbearers will be Eric Mouton, Micheal Darby, Horace Darby Jr., Eric Darby, Dewayne Porter and Robert Benoit.Honorary pallbearers will be Derrick "Lil Jam" Darby, Melvin Darby, Leroy Darby, Kevin Darby, Scottie Borel, Joseph Benoit, Cornelius Perrio and Phillip Jones Jr.The family would like to extend a sincere thanks to everyone who called, text, or came by during this difficult time.
