St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, December 1, 2007, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Sherry Joseph ""George"" Skipper, 73, who passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
Interment will follow at Union Baptist Cemetery, in St. Martinville.
Rev. Thomas Mullally, SVD, pastor of Notre Dame Catholic Church, will conduct the funeral Mass.
Mr. Skipper was a member of the Goodwill Mutual Aid Association. ?He enjoyed painting and watching sporting events of all kinds. ?He was a parishioner of Notre Dame Catholic Church, where he faithfully attended Mass every Sunday. ?He loved spending time with his beloved wife of 47 years, Shirley, his children and grandchildren. ""George"" as he was known by his family and friends, loved people and will be remembered for the joy he brought to every individual through conversation.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Skipper, of St. Martinville; four sons, Donald Skipper and wife, Nancy, of Breaux Bridge, Todd Skipper and wife, Sally, of Grand Prairie, TX, Theodore Skipper and wife, Angela, of Grand Prairie, TX, and David Skipper, of St. Martinville; two daughters, Sherrydean Hill, of Arlington, TX, and Shelley Bourda and husband, Louis, of Dallas, TX; three brothers, Joseph Skipper, Sr., of St. Martinville, Clarence Skipper, Jr. and wife, Philamina, of Lafayette, and Harry Skipper and wife, Willa Mae, of St. Martinville; three sisters, Juanita Hypolite and husband, Clarence, Lorenza Flugence, and Margaret Mitchell, all of St. Martinville; 11 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Skipper, Sr. and Albertine Mitchell Skipper; and two brothers.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 7:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Pallbearers will be Eldridge Ebow, Jr., Marlon Gardner, Reginald Hill, Sr., Joseph Skipper, Jr., Clarence Skipper, III, and Wilbert Hypolite.
Honorary pallbearers will be Louis Bourda, Jr., Giraud Polite, Floyd Fontenette, Jr., Dominic Bourda, John Polite, Brian Hill, Francis Ebow, Jr., Clarence Hypolite, Sr., and his three brothers.
