Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2007, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Shirley Marie Castille Barras, 71, who passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at Meadowbrook Specialty Hospital in Lafayette.
Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Fr. Allen Breaux, associate pastor of St. Bernard Church, will conduct the funeral service. Readers will be Roxanne Latiolais, Elaine Bourda, and Twanda Amos, with Journey Hospice. ?Gift bearers will be Renee B. Boudreaux, Destiney Barras Patin, Christi Lasseigne, and Raquel and Sharon Delahoussaye.
Mrs. Barras attended Louisiana Technical College for 1 year and U.L. for 3 years. ?She was employed with St. Martin Parish School Board as a teacher's aide for 25 years.
Survivors include her loving husband of 51 years, Wesley Barras, of Parks; two sons, Eddie John Barras and wife, Debbie, of Cecilia, and Kevin Barras and wife, Loretta, of Parks; three daughters, Judy Delahoussaye and husband, Kenneth, of St. Martinville, Stephanie Barras and her companion, Carl ""Shorty"" Blanchard, of Parks, and Jenise Lasseigne and husband, Chris, of Cecilia; seven brothers, Andrew Castille, of Breaux Bridge, Maurice ""Conn"" Castille, of Ohio, Patrick Castille, of Breaux Bridge, Junior Berard, of Cecilia, Darius ""Kite"" Jeansonne, of Lafayette, Lin Berard, of Breaux Bridge, and Charles Berard, of South Carolina; three sisters, Velma C. Breaux, of Lafayette, Gloria C. Stoute, and Emily C. Breaux, all of Breaux Bridge; 12 grandchildren, Raquel Delahoussaye, Sharon Delahoussaye, Eddie Elie, Jonathan, Christopher, and Jeremy Barras, Renee B. Boudreaux, Aaron and Austin Barras, John Barras Lasseigne, Christi Lasseigne, Destiney Barras Patin; 1 great grandchild, Weston Paul Boudreaux, and one on-the-way, Rachel Orson; and her loving pet dogs, ""Coco"" and ""Charlie"".
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Celine Jeansonne Castille; five brothers, Percy, Fred, Harry, Jimmy, and Davis Castille; her nephew, Darrell Castille; her brothers-in-law, Jim Castille and Eugene Breaux; her sisters-in-law, Vernice, Nancy, Betty, and Theoland Castille.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday and continue at 7 a.m. on Saturday until time of service.
A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be Austin, Eddie, and Kevin Barras.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Pete and Gloria Stoute, Drs. Joseph Brierre, Mike Mounir, Debra Durham, and their staff, Emily Breaux, Journey Hospice, Meadowbrook Specialty Hospital, Lydia Cancer Society, and the Miles Perret Center, for their wonderful friendship and care provided to her during her illness.
