Arnaudville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church in Arnaudville for Shirley Marie Thomas, 61, who passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2019, at Lafayette General Medical Center.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 4:00 pm until 10:00 pm on Friday and continue on Saturday at 7:00 am until 9:30 am.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm on Friday.
Rev. Travis Abadie will officiate at the Mass of Christian Burial. Gift Bearers will be Tirra Brown and Joseph Brown. Reader will be Angel Brown.
Interment will follow at St. John Francis Regis Cemetery in Arnaudville.
Mrs. Thomas, known by many as the life of the party, was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and great grand mother who enjoyed watching the cooking and syfi channel, dancing, cooking and baking, going to the center on Wednesdays and shopping, and listening to 95.5 on the radio. She was a very uplifting person when you needed someone to talk to. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her loving spouse, Robert Thomas of Arnaudville; son, Xavier Walter Major, Jr. of Arnaudville; daughters, Natashia Major of Opelousas, Af-Rica Brown and husband Anthony Brown of Arnaudville, and Jeanitta Latrise Major of Arnaudville; brothers, Jerry Reed of Lafayette, Charlie Riggs of Arnaudville, John Reed and wife Eula of Opelousas, and Joseph M. Reed of Opelousas; sisters, Cheryl Tollivier and husband Sylvester of Arnaudville, Clara Lastrapes and husband Jimmy of Arnaudville, Odelia Riggs of Lafayette, Carolyn Riggs of Arnaudville, Tina Stein of Arnaudville, Monica Stein of Arnaudville, Mary Charles and husband Johnny of Leonville, Barbara Reed of Leonville, Shirley Johnson of Houston, TX, and Peanut Sam and husband CuaCua of Leonville; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, David Jermaine Major; father, Clarence Reed; mother, Mary Martha Stein; brothers, Norman Major, Lawrence Reed, and Cleveland Reed.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Brown Jr., Deshawn Major, Xavier Major Jr., Kienta Riggs, Kevin Faulk, and Edward Edmond Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Timothy Riggs and Kenneth Roberts.
