Sidney Barras

St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Sidney Joseph Barras, 84, who passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Belle Teche Nurshing & Rehab in New Iberia. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville. Msgr. J. Douglas Courville will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Gift Bearers will be Jaci and Chelsy Chataignier.Sidney enjoyed doing mechanic work and spending time with his family and friends.Survivors include his sons, John Alfred Barras and his wife, Deanna, of Lafayette, Roland Joseph Barras, and Kurt Barras and his wife, Pat, all of New Iberia; his daughter, Claire Chataignier, of New Iberia; his sister, Georgie Laviolette; his daughter-in-law, Cynthia Barras of St. Martinville; 16 grandchildren, Blake and Paige Barras, Jaci and Chelsy Chataignier, Raven and Rachelle Barras, Royd and Randy Menard, Sandy Barras, Angella Britten, Cheree Bearb, Jason Barras, Andrea Wagespack, Amanda and Joe Barras, and Misty Derouen; and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Courville Barras; three sons, Kim, Wayne, and Glenn Barras; his parents, Robert and Amanda Boudreaux Barras; and his brother, Ames Barras. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 11:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday and continue at 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. on Friday. Pallbearers will be Kurt, John, and Jason Barras, Blake Barras, Todd Bearb, and Jonathan Britten. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy and Royd Menard.
