Sidney J. Gueringer, Jr.

New Iberia - A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 am on Friday, December 1, 2023 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Iberia, for Sidney J. Gueringer, Jr., 79, who passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at New Iberia Manor South Nursing Home.

Rev. Furka will be the Celebrant. 

Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 10:30 am until 11:30 am. 

Sidney was born in New Iberia, Louisiana on December 31, 1943. He graduated from St. Peter's College, then obtained his master’s degree from USL (now UL). He proudly served our country in the US Air Force. Sidney was a dedicated educator and had a passion for history and geography, which he taught at USL and made a significant impact on countless students' lives throughout his career.

In addition to his teaching profession, Sidney also worked as a Procurement Contract Specialist, showcasing his versatility and expertise in various fields. He was known for his meticulous attention to detail and dedication to his work. Sidney's commitment to excellence was an inspiration to those who had the pleasure of working with him.

Beyond the walls of academia and work, Sidney nurtured several hobbies and interests that brought him joy. An avid stamp collector, he took pride in his extensive collection which told stories from around the world. Music held a special place in Sidney's heart; he served as a Choir Director at various churches over the years, sharing his talent and passion with others. He also showcased his musical abilities through playing the piano and being part of a Barber Shop Quartet. His harmonious melodies brought warmth to many hearts.

Sidney is survived by a sister, Kay Woolfolk of Cupertino, California; and a cousin, Adrienne Detwiler of New Iberia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney Joseph Gueringer, Sr. and Bernadette "Kitty" Brown Gueringer. 

 Sidney's memory will forever be treasured in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
