Sidney J. Trahan, Jr.

Cecilia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia for Sidney J. Trahan Jr., 80, who passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at Calcutta House. 

A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Cecilia on Monday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and will continue on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until service time.

A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM on Monday by Jackie Cormier.

Rev. Greg Cormier    will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be Virginia Hebert and Marilyn Dupre. Gift bearers will be Adeze LeBlanc and Mary Selby.

Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. 

From a young age, Sidney displayed a strong work ethic and determination. He began his career as a newspaper delivery boy, demonstrating responsibility and reliability beyond his years. As he grew older, Sidney found his true calling in the dredge boat industry. For an impressive span of 48 years, he dedicated himself to this field. Starting as an oiler and displaying unmatched dedication and skill throughout his career, Sidney rose through the ranks to become Senior Chief Engineer before retiring. His contributions to the industry were widely recognized and respected by colleagues and peers.

Education held great importance in Sidney's life. He graduated from Cecilia High School in 1961 with a thirst for knowledge that would stay with him throughout his lifetime. Sidney possessed an incredible linguistic ability and spoke three languages fluently - English, Cajun French, and French. This skill allowed him to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and enriched his personal interactions.

Having served three years in the Army Artillery Unit, Sidney was a proud veteran who proudly represented his country during his military service and was a member of American Legion Post #294. His time in the armed forces instilled in him valuable virtues such as discipline, honor, and selflessness.

Family held a special place in Sidney's heart. He was deeply devoted to his loved ones and cherished spending quality time with them. Whether it was attending family gatherings or simply being there for support and guidance when they needed it most, Sidney was always present for those he held dear. His love and guidance will be forever cherished by his family.  Sidney will also be remembered for his love of strawberries and sweets.  

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Catherine Huval Trahan; grandchild, Brittany Nicole Trahan; sisters, Jeanette Trahan (Lawless "Dozzie") Morris, Claire Trahan (Jody Royer) Scalisi, Claudette Trahan Martin and Jacqueline Trahan (Leo) Solomon; sisters-in-law, Margarite Richard, Mary (John) Selby, Yvonne (John) Richard, Jessie (Donald) Latiolais, Nancy (Jeffery) Walters, Elizabeth Huval, Patricia Burleigh and Adeze (Ricky) LeBlanc; brothers-in-law, David (Mona) Huval and Leon "Joseph" (Earline) Huval.

He is preceded in death by his son Julian Paul Trahan; father, Sidney Trahan, Sr.; step-mother, Andree Trahan; brother, Julian Paul Trahan; sisters, Marie Alice Trahan Reeves and Lucy Martin; father-in-law, Leon Jessie Huval; and his mother-in-law, Alice Arnaud Huval. 

Pallbearers will be Rowdy Latiolais, Leon "T-Joe" Huval, John Richard, David Huval, Leon Joseph Huval, and Eric Huval.
