Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 31, 2007, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Simon Melancon, 84, who died on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at his residence.
Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Rev. Fr. Donald Pelous, will officiate at the funeral Mass and Fr. Michael Champagne will be the con-celebrant. ?Readers will be Mitra Trahan and Blair Boudreaux. Gift bearers will be Duffie Clavier, Kristin Melancon, and Jill Angelle.
Mr. Melancon was a lifelong farmer. ?He served as a board member of the Breaux Bridge Sugar Co-Op, St. Bernard Catholic School, and Farm Bureau. ?He was a parishioner of St. Bernard Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, Usher, and also served as the Maintenance Commissioner on the parish council. ?Mr. Melancon was a veteran of World War II, stationed in Europe, having honorably served his country in the United States Army.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Melancon, of Breaux Bridge; three sons, David Melancon and wife, Jane, Dean Melancon and wife, Missy, all of Breaux Bridge , and Neil ""Sam"" Melancon and wife, Jennifer, of Lafayette; two daughters, Jackie Boudreaux and husband, Dale, and Donnell Angelle and husband, Guy, all of Breaux Bridge; his daughter-in-law, Carol Melancon, of Lafayette; his grandchildren, Duffie Clavier and husband, Jody, Brit Melancon, wife, Nicole, Kristin Melancon, Justin Breaux, Mitra Trahan, husband, Billy, Blair Boudreaux, Jon Melancon, Jill Angelle, and Carson Angelle; his great grandchildren, Janie, Andrew, Ryan, Cassidy, Caelan, Ethan, and Ty; two sisters, Susan and Elaine Melancon; and three brothers, Antoine, Howard, and Lester Melancon.
He was preceded in death by his son Terry Melancon; two grandsons, Ryan and Robbie Melancon; one sister, Verna LeBlanc; one brother, Henry Melancon, Jr.; and his parents, Eloin and Henry Melancon, Sr.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:30 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Thursday and continue at 7:00 a.m. on Friday until time of service.
A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening.
Pallbearers will be Dean Melancon, Neil Melancon, Dale Boudreaux, Guy Angelle, Brit Melancon, and Jon Melancon.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Justin Breaux, Jody Clavier and Billy Trahan.
The family wishes to express their sincerest gratitude to Drs. Michael Cain and Kenneth Entes, and their staff, Father Michael Champagne, and to Hospice of Acadiana, for the wonderful care provided to Mr. Melancon during his illness.
