Cecilia A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, on Monday, April 13, 2015, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia, for Solange "So" Calais Huval, 89, who passed away on Friday, April 10, 2015, at St. Agnes Healthcare & Rehab Center.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Sunday, and continue on Monday at 7:00 am until 9:45 am, at Pellerin Funeral Home in Cecilia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm on Sunday.
Rev. Michael Delcambre will officiate at the Funeral Mass, also attending will be Rev. Flo Calais (cousin of Ms. Huval), Rev. Gary Schexnayder, Rev. Bill Ruskoski, and Rev. Msgr. Louis Melancon. Scriptures will be read by Cheryl Guidry and Wanda Guidry. Gift bearers will be Kim Frith, Geralyn Thomassee, Jeannie Serette, and Shari Boudreaux. Musical selections will be provided by Robin Landry. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Cecilia.
A resident of Cecilia, Ms. Huval was better known as Ms. So by all her family and friends. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church and also served as the treasurer for the Ladies Altar Society for many years.
At age 13, Ms. So started her career as a cashier at the Paul Angelle Store. Many years passed and she met the love of her life, Aswell Huval; they married and had Lisa, their only child. By this time, Ms. So and Aswell had bought the store and then renamed it the Aswell Huval Store. Dark days fell upon the Huval family; Aswell passed away. After his death she ran the store with her dear friend, Ms. Alma Calais. After a while, she sold the store and went to work as a cashier at Greens E-Z Way in Cecilia, which in now Greens Piggly Wiggly. She retired from the Piggly Wiggly after 30 years of service. Ms. So was well-known in the Cecilia area she never met a stranger. People used to say if you need to know something, call Ms. So. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially her daughter, Lisa, who took care of her Mom with compassion and strength.
Survivors include the light-of-her-life, her daughter and only child, Lisa Huval and her special friend, Kim Frith, of Cecilia; her sister, Edith Angelle and husband, Lawrence, of Cecilia. Ms. Huval is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Ms. Huval had two very special friends that she considered her daughters, Ms. Alma Calais and Ms. Cheryl Guidry.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Aswell Huval; her parents Alfred and Elmire Naquin Calais; her sisters,
Ida Calais, Manola Schexnayder, and Theresa Quebedeaux; her brother, Gussy Calais; and her in-laws, Robin and Luce Huval, Sr.
Pallbearers will be Eddie and Kim Angelle, Jay Taylor, Keith Thomassee, and Amos and Caleb Guidry.
Honorary pallbearers will be L.J., Ryan and Corie Angelle, Dave Dore, Dane Green, and Larry Calais.
Lisa would like to give special thanks to some of the employees at St. Agnes Nursing Home who became part of her family while Ms. So was a resident there, especially Rachel Landry, Ms. Jenora, Angula Guster, Terry, Angel, Ms. Peggy, Rosalyne, Brie, Sharell, Rakayla, Kim, Cindy, and Jessica.
