St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, Februay 21, 2009, in Pellerin Funeral Home Chapel in St. Martinville, for Stanley Dexter Stockstill, 94, who passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette, LA, on Wednesday, February 18, 2009.
The Reverend John "Buddy" Breaux, Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Loreauville, Louisiana, will conduct the Rites of Christian Burial at Pellerin Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the Methodist Cemetery on Resweber Street, St. Martinville, LA.
Survivors include his sons, Robert Stockstill and his wife, Sharon, of Houston, TX, and Neil Stockstill and his wife, LaVonne, of St. Martinville; his daughters, Joyce Leece and her husband, Bill, of Lafayette, and Faith Albert and her husband, Hans, of Mandeville; and 17 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Virginia Foti Stockstill; his parents Albert and Mathilda Larson Stockstill; a son, Stanley Mark Stockstill; a daughter, Mary Ann Stockstill; four sisters, Gertrude Curry, Viola Daspit, Irene Fuselier, and Shirley Field; and three brothers, Ishamael Stockstill, Clyde Stockstill, and Roy Stockstill.
A native of Bayou Chene and resident of St. Martinville for 80 years, Stanley loved his family and was devoted to his children and grandchildren. He loved to fish, especially in the waters near his birthplace in the Atchafalaya Basin. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Pallbearers will be Stanley Leece, David Leece, Moses Stockstill, Max Albert, Bruce Beach, Matthew Leece, and Girard Foti.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ty Fontenot and Rich Fitzgerald.
