New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia for Sybil Achee Darby Maturin, 82, who passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, in Lafayette.
Interment will follow in the Franklin Cemetery.
Rev. Bill Melancon will be the Celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be Monday from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary, led by the Mens Rosary Group, will be prayed at 7:00 pm Monday. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 8:00 am until 11:30 am.
Mrs. Maturin was born in Franklin on February 27, 1936 to the late Emmet and Louise Pontiff Achee and was a longtime area resident. She enjoyed singing opera and Latin music, gardening, and taking care of her family.
Survivors include her sons, Paul J. Darby, III and wife Regina of Lafayette, Charles Darby and wife Denise of Lafayette; daughters, Maria Darby LeJeune of Liberty, Texas, Catherine Darby Alexandrian and husband Hiro of Lafayette, Charlotte Darby Hebert and companion Cayetano Jasso of St. Martinville, Elaine Darby Cerna and husband Carlos of Lafayette, Rachael Darby Gunnells and husband Art of Carencro, Madeline Darby of Lafayette; step son, Joseph Maturin of New Iberia; sisters, Sandra Achee Darby and husband Bernard of Franklin, Donna Achee Dupre and husband Bryan of Scott; brother, Timothy Achee and wife Brenda of Toledo Bend, Texas; 29 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and 2 due to arrive later this year.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Paul J. Darby, Jr. and Claude Maturin, a brother, Reid Charles Achee, granddaughter, Elizabeth Maria Cerna, and a son-in-law, Harold Richard, Jr.
