Thelma Melancon Gautreaux entered into eternal rest on the morning of Wednesday, November 15, 2006. The most generous of spirit, she cherished her family and was devoted to her friends.
Visitation will be at Pellerin Funeral Home, in New Iberia, on Friday, November 17th, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with recitation of the rosary at 7:00 pm. Visitation will resume on Saturday, November 18th from 10:00 am until time of service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church, at 1:30 pm, Saturday, November 18, 2006, with Reverend Gary Schexnayder, as the Celebrant. Entombment will follow in the Nativity Mausoleum.
She is survived by her beloved husband of sixty-five years, Whitney A. Gautreaux; daughter, Brenda G. Laws of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; daughter, Teri G. DesOrmeaux of Lafayette; daughter, Caryn G. Hymel and husband Cecil A. Hymel, Sr. of New Iberia; son, Bryan L. Gautreaux of New Iberia; grandchildren, Marci Laws Robles and Jason Laws of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Ryan P. DesOrmeaux and Ross M. DesOrmeaux of Lafayette, Natalie C. Hymel of New Iberia; step grandchild, Cecil A. Hymel, II and wife Kelly of New Iberia; great grandchild, Briana Laws of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; step great grandchildren, Jack P. Hymel and Benjamin A. Hymel of New Iberia; sister, Girlie M. Babineaux of New Iberia; sister, Gloria M. Lopez and husband Harold "Chip" Lopez of New Iberia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis J. Melancon and Cecile Trahan Melancon; son-in-law, Richard O. Laws; brother-in-law, Marshall Babineaux.
Pallbearers will be Gene Pete, Cecil A. Hymel, II, Jed Lopez, Hal Lopez, Kenny Lopez, Harold "Chip" Lopez, and Ryan P. DesOrmeaux.
