Theresa "Jane" Courville

New Iberia - Theresa "Jane" Courville, a gentle and kind soul, with her children by her side, passed away on January 13, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth. Born on March 27, 1931, in Grand Prairie to the late Norbert and Amalise Ortego, she grew up in a large, humble family where she learned the importance of family bonds and the values of service and compassion.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 pm, on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Our Lady of Prompt Succor Cemetery, in Coteau.

Rev. Keith Landry will be the Celebrant.

Visitation will be Thursday, from 9:30 am until 1:30 pm. A rosary will be prayed at 11:00 am.

Jane was an integral part of her community for many years as a dedicated hairdresser. For four decades, she ran her own beauty shop that her customers sweetly dubbed the Hugging Shop, a name that perfectly captured her caring nature. Every customer who walked through her doors received not only a beautiful hairstyle but also a genuine hug that touched their hearts.

Beyond her professional life, Jane was deeply involved in her church, Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, and served as a true pillar of faith. She devoted her time to teaching religion classes and acted as a Lay Minister. Her devotion to her Faith shone brightly through in every aspect of her life.

In addition to her spiritual commitments, Jane cherished various hobbies and interests. She had a love for travel, finding joy in exploring new places and marveling at God’s creation.  Nature's wonders never failed to captivate her, with birds and flowers holding a special place in her heart. Whether it was cooking up delicious meals, tending to her garden, creating intricate crochet pieces, or expressing herself through painting, Jane enjoyed sharing her thoughtful and creative spirit with others.

Despite leading a fulfilling professional life and pursuing diverse interests, family always remained paramount for Jane. A loving and wise mother, she encouraged her children to seek joy and happiness and to embrace continuous growth and learning. She loved hosting and attending family events, sharing unconditional love and support with all.

Survivors include her children, Lisa Kadi (Joe), Michael Courville (Linda Robertson), and George Courville (Nadine Fritz); daughter-in-law, Vicki Courville; grandchildren, Louis Courville, Gabe Courville (Angel), Rafe Courville, Allison Courville Hebert (Tyler), Morgan Courville Dubois (Carson), Anna Kadi, and Ava Kadi; great grandchildren, Sophie Courville, Jack Courville, Livie Hebert, Maria Hebert, Julia Hebert, Samuel Hebert, Owen Dubois, Lucas Dubois, Ory Courville, Alex Courville, and Melissa Manriques; sisters, Sylvia Veillon and Patsy Dupre.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Joseph A. Courville; a son, David Courville; grandchildren, Nash Courville and Claire Courville; and siblings, Allen Ortego, Huey Ortego, Ruby Ardoin, and Bernita LaFleur.

Pallbearers will be Louis Courville, Gabe Courville, Rafe Courville, Kirk Dupre, Carson Dubois, and Tyler Hebert.

Honorary pallbearer will be Paul Veillon.

Theresa "Jane" Courville will forever be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering kindness, and boundless love. May she rest in eternal peace as her memory lives on in the hearts of all who were touched by her presence.
