Theresa Leon Pickney

St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Notre Dame Catholic Church for Theresa Leon Pickney, 99, who passed away on August 21, 2022 at her residence.

A visitation will take place at Notre Dame Catholic Church on Saturday, September 3, 2022, from 7:00 am until the time of Mass at 11:00 am.

A rosary will be prayed at 9:30 am on Saturday.

Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.

Theresa Leon Pickney was born on July 30, 1923, to the union of the late Ivon and Felicia Hypolite Leon in St. Martinville, LA. On August 21, 2022, an Angel of the Lord came and took her to her heavenly home. She was surrounded by her family.

She was joined in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life, Junius Pickney, for 26 years until his death. Their union was blessed with four children, ten beloved grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Theresa was dedicated to a life of service. She was a lifelong parishioner of Notre Dame Catholic Church. She was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary and the Altar Society. One of her greatest joys was serving as a Foster Grandparent for the Smile Headstart Foster Grandparent Program.

Theresa was a huge fan of Wheel of Fortune and The Price is Right. She was affectionately known as "The Lucky Lady" - as her favorite pastimes were playing Bingo and visiting casinos.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by her three sons, Henry Pickney, Sr., Harold Pickney, Jr. and Clarence Pickney, Sr.; her nine grandchildren who lovingly refer to her as Gram: Harold Pickney, Jr. (Lavelle), Teasalette Williams, Henry Pickney, Jr. (Kayla), Lakeisha Williams, Natasha Ferdinand (James), Karetta Pickney, Kayla Pickney, Gerard Williams, Jr. and Rosetta Celestine (James); her bonus grandson, Dexter Porter; her nine great-grandchildren, Kirsten Charles, Quentin Sykes, Lauren Sykes, Christian Pickney, Kynli Pickney, Niyah Ferdinand, Emersyn Celestine, Kamille Celestine and Kross Pickney; her son-in-law, Gerard Williams; her daughter-in-law, Theresa Lewis; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Junius Pickney; her daughter, Theresa Pickney Williams; her grandson, Clarence Christopher Pickney; her parents, Ivon and Felicia Leon; brothers, Joseph Leon, Patrick Leon, Lawrence Leon, and Clarence Leon; sisters, Lorena Lewis, Corinne Jones, Mary Evangeline Wiltz, and an infant sister, Mary Leon; and her daughters-in-law, Gretta Pickney and Serena Pickney.

Pallbearers will be Harold Pickney, Jr., Henry Pickney, Jr., Gerard Williams, Jr., Quentin Sykes, Christian Pickney, and Jeremy Bolden.

Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Pickney, Sr., Harold Pickney, Sr., Clarence Pickney, Sr., Gerard Williams, Sr., Gary Hypolite, Sr., Patrick Leon, Jr., James Celestine, Dexter Porter, Paul Wiltz, Sr., Paul Wiltz, Jr., Walter Wiltz, Clifton Leon, Paul Sykes, and Corey Allen.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for every expression of love and concern.
