St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrate at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville for Theresa Mary Pickney Williams, 65. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 7:00 am until 10:00 am on Saturday at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville. A rosary will be prayed at 9:00 am on Saturday. Rev. Michael Sucharski, SVD will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Natasha Pickney-Ferdinand and Kayla Pickney. Gift Bearers will be JaMya Allen, Leticia Rena Berard, and Calandra Randall. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery in St. Martinville. Theresa Mary Pickney Williams was born on February 28, 1952 to the union of Junius and Theresa Leon Pickney in St. Martinville, LA. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to Gerard Williams for 46 years. Their union was blessed with three children and two beloved grandchildren. On December 27, 2017, an Angel of the Lord came and took her to the heavenly home. Theresa was a lifelong member of Notre Dame Catholic Church. She was dedicated to a life of service. She was a member of the Associates of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, a Eucharistic Minister, and was a member of the Church Fair committee. Affectionately known as the Candy Lady, she poured her love of baking into her cakes, pies, and her specialty, pecan candy. She was a proud graduate of Holy Rosary Institutes Class of 1970. She was excited to join the ranks of retirement after working at Martin Mills for 25 years and at St. Martin Parish Library for 17 years. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by her devoted husband, Gerard, Sr.; her mother, Theresa L. Pickney; three children, Teasalette Williams-Sykes (Paul) of Pearland, TX, Lakeisha Williams of Fresno, TX and Gerard Williams, Jr. of St. Martinville, LA; two grandchildren, Quentin and Lauren Sykes of Pearland, TX; three brothers, Henry Pickney, Sr. (Gretta), Harold Cat Pickney, Sr. and Clarence Pickney, all of St. Martinville, LA; brother-in-law, David Williams of Lafayette, LA (Polly); sisters-in-law, Hilda Williams of Youngsville, LA and Theresa Lewis of St. Martinville, LA; one goddaughter, Leticia Rena Berard; a host of nieces and nephews who lovingly refer to her as Aunt Nanny; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Junius Pickney; her maternal grandparents, Ivan and Felicia Leon; her paternal grandparents, Frederick and Mary Pickney; mother and father in-law, Frank and Pearly Williams; sister-in-law, Patricia Williams and nephew, Clarence Christopher Pickney. Pallbearers will be Gerard Williams Jr., Harold Pickney Jr., Patrick Leon Jr., Quentin Sykes, Henry Pickney Jr., Larry Wiltz. Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Pickney, Sr., Harold Pickney, Sr., Clarence Pickney, Dr. Paul Sykes, David Williams, Charlie Williams, Nicholas Williams and Christian Pickney. Pellerin Funeral Home (337-332-2111) is in charge of arrangements.
