Thomas Bernard

New Iberia - Thomas Lawrence Bernard, born November 28, 1947 in New Iberia , Louisiana died unexpectedly, October 6, 2011 in New Orleans , where he worked at the New Orleans Public Library. Family and friends will gather for a celebration of his life at 1:00 PM on Thursday, October 13, 2011 in the Veterans Memorial Building in New Iberia City Park . Private interment will be in the family plot in the Memorial Park Cemetery in New Iberia . He was preceded in death by his parents, the late A. Lewis and Catherine Dufreche Bernard; grandparents, A.C. and Alaska Lewis Bernard; and C.J. 'Cyp' Dufreche, Sr. and Gertrude Strader Dufreche. He is survived by his sisters Aimee B. Rubio and husband Martin Rubio of Houston; Mary B. Dusing of Houston; Louise B. 'Cissy' Dorsey and husband Tommy Dorsey, Sr. of Ponchatoula; Jeanne Bernard Cheynel of Paris, France; and brothers Lewis B. Bernard and wife Charlene Sellers Bernard of Lafayette; John E. Bernard and wife Holly Green Bernard of Albany, Texas; and Joseph B. Bernard and wife Sheila Nobles Bernard of Ponchatoula. He is also survived by 18 nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all. Memorial contributions may be made to the Habitat for Humanity Greensboro, NC, where he volunteered for many years, or the New Orleans Public Library System.
