Thomas Periou

Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, in Breaux Bridge for Thomas Joseph Periou, 89, who died on Saturday, July 21, 2007 at St. Martin Hospital in Breaux Bridge. Mr. Periou was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Parks American Legion, and the Louisiana and American Bankers Associations, as well as the American Institute of Banking. He also served on the church council for St. Joseph Catholic Church. He began his association with Farmers-Merchants Bank and Trust in 1956, where he served in multiple capacities, culminating his banking career as Chairman of the Board until the time of his death. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Viva Broussard Periou of Parks; his son, Thomas Louis Periou, M.D. and his wife, Anne of Covington; his daughters, Gayle Madeline Periou Scheuermann and her husband, Walter of Covington and Christina Louise Periou Bulliard and her husband, Bob of Parks; his grandchildren, Christian Anthony Scheuermann M.D., Marie Therese Scheuermann, Marie-Elise Bulliard Hanks, Gabriel Thomas Bulliard, Eric Periou and Caitlin Periou; and his great-grandchildren, Lily Catherine, Eve Marie and Walter Christian Scheuermann. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie Louise Ducrest Periou and Hortere Periou; his son, Ernest Arthur Periou; his sisters, Marie Therese Periou Castille and Corrine Degetaire; and his great-grandchild, Ava Elizabeth Hanks. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 4:00 pm till 9:00 pm, Monday, July 23, 2007 and continue at 8:00 am Tuesday until time of service. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm Monday. Pallbearers will be Eric Periou, Gabriel Bulliard, Christian Scheuermann, Aaron Hanks, Bob Bulliard and Walter Scheuerman. Honorary pallbearers will be Farmers-Merchants Bank and Trust Board of Directors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be submitted to ULL Thomas Periou Scholarship Fund or for church memorial masses in his name. Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge is in charge of arrangements.
