Parks - Veda Hypolite Harness joined her Lord on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at the age of 50. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at St. Louis Chapel in Parks. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at St. Louis Chapel in Parks beginning at 8 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. on Saturday. A rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 - Mausoleum in Breaux Bridge. Veda was preceded in death by her husband Prince Edward Harness; her parents, Arthur J. Hypolite and Mae Audrey Hypolite. She leaves a wealth of memories, family, and friends. She is survived by three daughters; Jamila, Maya, and Briaon; five siblings, Claudia H. Clark (Lloyd), Ruby H. Celestine (Warren), Stasia H. Gillum (Ward), Arthur C. Hypolite (Sandra), Stephen W. Hypolite (Patricia), and Yolanda Lewis; three aunts, Rose Hoskins, Mary Corner, and Willa Mae Lewis; two uncles, Isaac Thomas, and Phillip Lewis; her godparents, Presley Robertson and Sharon Wiltz Hypolite; her dedicated and devoted friend Rose Wiltz; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews , cousins, friends and co-workers. Veda was a member of Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Marrero, Louisiana, where she faithfully served for more than fifteen years, St. Paul Benevolent Society, and the St. Louis Altar Society. Veda attended Parks Primary and Elementary schools, and graduated from Breaux Bridge High School, class of 1981. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from University of Louisiana and worked for the last fifteen years as a Child Welfare Specialist in the Department of Social Services/Office of Community Services (Child Protection Division). Veda was also a member of numerous social, civic, and service organizations including The Knights of Peter Claver, 3rd Degree, Ladies Auxiliary, (Court #267), Drexel Society (New Iberia Chapter), and the Susan B. Anthony Breast Cancer Organization. Veda was an affectionate, caring, loving, loyal and giving mother, sister, aunt, niece and friend. Her effervescent smile, warm demeanor and strong character were the hallmarks of her personality. She was a friend to many, and had a great love and passion for children, especially special needs children. Her life was a testimony to perseverance, education, love and family. She will be dearly missed by all. Pallbearers will be Toby Celestine, Brandon P. Goines, Arthur Jamal Hypolite, David Lewis, William Lewis, Norbert P. Rome, Everette Thomas, and Gene Wynn. Honorary pallbearers will be Donnie Charles, Randy Charles, Warren Celestine, Lloyd J. Clark, Ward Gillum, Doug Hoskins, Arthur C. Hypolite, Stephen W. Hypolite, Brandel John, Dr. Phillip Lewis, Preston Robertson, Dexter Thomas, Isaac Thomas, and Joseph F. Wiltz.
