Rynella - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at St. Marcellus Catholic Church in Rynella for Velma Escagne Meyers, 64, who passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, in New Iberia. Interment will follow in the Broussard Cemetery. Rev. Ed Degeyter will be the Celebrant. A gathering of family and friends will be Friday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Friday. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 8:00 AM until 9:15 AM. Velma was a former employee of McIlhenny, where she was a tour guide for the Tabasco Country Store. She loved her family and friends dearly. Velma was a very independent and outgoing person. She enjoyed playing bingo, family gatherings, and her weekly dining with a very special friend. She is survived by three sisters, Rose Sandoz and husband Bernard of New Iberia, Olive Landry and husband Calvin of Jeanerette, and Helen Louviere of New Iberia. She is also survived by her godchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a dear special friend, Carlis Vincent of New Iberia. She was preceded in death by her husband of 20 years, Ronald Meyers; her parents, Rudolph Escagne and Avia Desormeaux; maternal grandparents, Theophyile Desormeaux and Edmonia LeBlanc; paternal grandparents, Alfred Escagne and Adrienne Aucoin; brothers, Paul Escagne and Wilbert Escagne, Sr.; brother-in-law, Tony Louviere; sisters-in-law, Billy Joyce Escagne and Emma Escagne; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Sib and Bertha Meyers; several very close cousins, nephews, and nieces. Pallbearers will be Chris Sandoz, Chad Landry, Craig Landry, Blake Boutte, Wilbert Escagne, Jr., and Kevin Meyers. Honorary pallbearers include Calvin Landry, Robert Escagne, Cody Landry, T.J. Louviere, Jade Sandoz, and Carlis Vincent. The family would like to give special thanks to the Doctors and Staff at Iberia Medical Center, especially CCU, and to Hospice of Acadiana.
