Velma Richard Moity was born in Opelousas, LA on November 16, 1926, the sixth of seven children born to the late Homere Richard and Alice Chachere Richard. She was a former longtime resident of Lydia, and a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Mrs. Moity was a hardworking lady who enjoyed playing Bridge, exercising, dancing, camping, and going to the casino. She was an excellent cook, and loved family gatherings. She was a very special lady, and will be deeply missed.
Mrs. Moity is survived by daughters, Margaret Coco and husband Myron "Buddy" of New Iberia, and Patricia Casey and husband Leonhard of New Orleans; son, Warren J. "Puggy" Moity, Jr. and wife Marylaura of Mandeville; brother, Homere Richard, Jr. of Opelousas; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Warren J. "Puggy" Moity, Sr.; brothers, Laurent, Lee and Murphy Richard; sisters, Louisiana Smith, Mable Savoie, and Wilda Richard; and a grandson, Michael McCroskey.
Pallbearers will be Mark Coco, Lyn Coco, Tommy McCroskey, Chaise Coco, Cole Coco, and Cody Moity.
