Velma Romero

New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, February 12, 2018, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Iberia, for Velma Dore Romero, 84, who passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018, in Lafayette. A gathering of family and friends will be at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia from 9:00 am until 1:30 pm on Monday. A rosary, led by Rev. Keith Landry, will be prayed at 10:00 am on Monday. Rev. Alexander Albert will be the Celebrant. Entombment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery in New Iberia. A loving mother and grandmother, Velma Dore Romero was born in New Iberia on March 4, 1933 to the late Arthur Dore and Elizabeth Hollier Dore. A wonderful homemaker, Velma enjoyed flower gardening and was an excellent cook, but what she cherished most was spending time with her family. She is survived by daughter, Jennifer Romero and fiance Shane Viator of New Iberia; sons, Timothy Romero and wife Jackie of Broussard, Michael E. Romero and wife Tammy of New Iberia, and Ricardo Romero and wife Pamela of New Iberia; a sister, Shirley Gachassin of New Iberia; grandchildren, Courtney Derise and husband Chase, Danielle Boutte and husband Tony, Michael J. Romero,, and Travis Romero and fiance Sheena Burke; great-grandchildren, Luke Derise, Braden Romero, Emmercyn Boutte, and Sebastian "Bubba" Boutte; and her loving companion and precious fur baby, Phoebe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Curley Romero; a grandchild, Brittany Romero; brothers, Whitney Dore, Paulica Dore, Walter Dore, Eddie Dore, and Larry Dore, and sisters, Verna Gautreaux and Paula Legnon. Pallbearers will be Timothy Romero, Ricardo Romero, Tony Boutte, and Chase Derise. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the entire staff of The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice in Lafayette for excellent care.
