Velta was born on September 28, 1932 to the late Pierre and Paula Derouen Bourque of New Iberia. She married the love of her life, Rayward Ray Fremin, Sr., on June 1, 1952. Velta and Rays love story started with a ride home from the skating rink, and their love for each other blossomed into a love one could only dream of. Even in the end, when her disease had stripped her of so much of her memory, she never lost her love for Ray or the knowledge that he was her source of comfort. Their love story yielded nine children, 34 grandchildren, and 49 great grandchildren.
Velta worked beside her husband in the family business, Fremins Food & Furniture, until the birth of her seventh child, when she became a stay-at-home mother. She was a devout Catholic and parishioner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. She devoted her life to her family, and to the caring of others around her. She was the best wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, and friend anyone could ask for. She had the kindest, biggest heart and had a love for others like no other. Her hobbies included cooking/baking, crocheting, visiting with family and friends, tending to her flower garden, caring for her grandchildren, and traveling the world with her husband. She will forever be loved and greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband Rayward Ray Fremin, Sr.; sons David Fremin, Sr. and wife Lillian, Rayward Ray Fremin, Jr. and wife Brenda, Ross Fremin and wife Toni, and Jeremy Fremin; daugthers Annette Poirrier and husband Brett Sturm, Natilie Fremin, Alison Weisz and husband Lyle, Pauline Sanchez and husband Jeff, and Mary Norris and husband Rodney; brother, Roy Bourque and wife Audrey; sister-in-law, Gail Waldmann; step-sister, Evelyn Derouen; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Rodney Fremin; great-grandson, Lincoln Pharr; step-mother, Florence R. Bourque; father-in-law, Wilton Fremin; mother-in-law, Bertha Fremin; brothers, Lenis and Vanice Bourque; and sisters, Anna Mae (Mim) Robicheaux, Nellion (Nell) Holman, Evelie (Belie) Chevalon, and Rella Leblanc; and a step-sister, Olite Broussard.
The Fremin family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to her loving caregivers, Carolyn Romero and Gerry Muzny for the kindness and compassion shown to the entire family.
