St. Martinville - A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 14, 2007, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville for Verna Martha Lasseigne Landry, who passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2007, at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette. Entombment will follow at St. Michael Mausoleum in St. Martinville. The Reverend Austin Leger, pastor of St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church, will officiate at the service. Mrs. Landry was born on August 1, 1923, and was a native and lifelong resident of St. Martinville, except for brief periods of time living in Ramah, New Mexico, and Bossier City, Louisiana. She was active in her Thursday Rosary Group in St. Martinville (since 1965) and the Catholic Daughters of America (for over 50 years); and was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution (Timothy Ball Chapter - Hammond, Indiana); Ladies' Altar Society; Pink Ladies (St. Martin Hospital volunteer); H2U (Dauterive Hospital); American Association of Retired Persons (AARP); Family Cooperative Extension (FCE); and Petit Paris Museum (volunteer). She also sewed baptismal bibs and scapulars for her church parish for many years. Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Joseph Bradley Landry, who always referred to her as "Tops" (because she was "the tops"); three sons, Philip Lee Landry and his wife, Pauline Bienvenu Landry, of Breaux Bridge, Marcel "Marc" Peter Landry and his wife, Barbara Boilek Landry, of Carmel, Indiana, and Paul Albert Landry and his wife, Patricia Suire Landry, of New Iberia. Additional survivors include seven grandchildren, Andrea Pourciau and her husband, Andre Pourciau, of Baton Rouge, Aaron Landry and his wife, Amanda Landry, of Sunset, Kevin Landry, of Dallas, Texas, Michelle Landry and Nichole Landry, both of Carmel, Indiana, and Jonathan Landry and Sarah Landry, both of New Iberia; She is also survived by one great grandson, Alex Landry, of Sunset; one brother, Howard Lasseigne, of New Iberia; and one sister, Marian Miller, of Wheeling, West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lionel and Corinne Broussard Lasseigne; her brothers, Allen Lasseigne, Chester Lasseigne, Elton Lasseigne, and Nolan Lasseigne; and one great grandson, Cody Joseph Pourciau. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 13, 2007, and continue at 7:00 a.m. on Monday until time of service. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening. Pallbearers will be Aaron Landry, Kevin Landry, Jonathan Landry, Andre Pourciau, Tom Lasseigne, and Seth Lasseigne. The family wishes to thank the staff of Lafayette General Medical Center, particularly the extraordinary individuals on the Eight Floor, as well as the caring staff of Hospice of Acadiana. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Ste. 200, Lafayette, LA 70503, to support the dignified services provided by that organization.
