New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Saturday, May 23, 2009 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia for Viola Benoit Simon, 86, who died Thursday, May 21, 2009 in New Iberia.
Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Salvino Ruben Primor will be the Celebrant.
A native of Youngsville and longtime resident of New Iberia, Viola was born on Thursday, October 12, 1922, she was the daughter of Elier and Lorita Breaux Benoit. She enjoyed being a homemaker, cooking and caring for her family. Viola's hobbies included sewing and playing bingo.
Survivors include her sons, Paul Curley Simon, wife Helen of New Iberia, Harry James Simon, wife Mary Katherine of New Iberia, Joseph Curnis Simon, wife Carolyn of Franklin, Rickey Joseph Simon, wife Wanda of Jeanerette; her daughter, Sherry Simon Eskind of New Iberia; her daughter in law, Rosalie Simon of New Iberia; her sisters, Agnes Duhon, Lucille Mouton, Gladys Suire; 15 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Oniel Simon; her sons, John Sandress Simon, James Terry Simon and her daughter, Tina Marie Simon.
Pallbearers will be Leo Simon, Daniel Simon, Daryl Simon, Nicholas Simon, Neil Simon and Eric Simon.
Honorary pallbearers include John Simon, Ryan Eskind and Jeremy Eskind.
A gathering of family and friends will be Friday, May 22, 2009 from 2:00 PM until 10:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Friday. Visitation will continue Saturday from 8:00 AM until 10:00 AM.
