Violet Kathleen Grimes Lancon was born in Corwen, North Wales on January 29, 1924 to the late Albert Edward Grimes and Eileen Victoria Peake Grimes. She formally trained for a career in Nursing in England in the late 1930s. Violet met Clarence Joseph "Joe" Lancon in 1943 at a U.S.O. Dance sponsored by her Nursing employer, and she and Joe were married in 1944. After many long years of war in Europe, Violet was one of the first WWII "GI Brides" to be united with her husband on U.S. Soil. In the summer of 1946, with their young daughter Lillian,Violet and Joe began their lives as a South Louisiana Cajun Family. In Violet's words, "I had no idea what I was going home to; I just assumed it was Hollywood!"
Proud of her British heritage, Violet kept her South Louisiana British expatriates together for conversation and emotional support. She is fondly remembered by close family for her eloquent constructive critiques of life. Violet was an avid story teller and great conversationalist on topics ranging from her life in Wales and England, to sports and politics.
Violet loved gardening, knitting, crocheting, and singing. In her youth, she performed with her family Orchestra in Wales. She grew up in the Church of England, and upon coming to New Iberia, she committed herself to the Catholic faith and taught Catechism for Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, where she was long time member of the choir. Violet was devoted to her family, and enjoyed participating in life's most precious events from birthdays to baseball games to dance recitals. The family would like to thank Violet's friends, neighbors and doctors for always looking out for her throughout the years. Your loving attention put joy in her heart and a spring in her step.
