New Iberia - Voncille Comeaux of Broussard, LA, formerly New Iberia, has been relieved of her duties as a mother, wife, cancer patient, and active advocate for a cure. She passed away Monday, December 19, 2016 at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, a place she had become all too familiar with after her diagnosis of myelofibrosis in 2005.
A gathering of family and friends will be Friday, December 23, 2016, from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia.
Interment will be at a later date.
Born Voncille Marie Fryou on October 16, 1955 in Morgan City, she was raised by her godmother, Isabelle Belanger.
Having come a long way from where she started in life, raised in a shack on the levee in Morgan City, she never forgot her roots, remaining a simple, kind-hearted woman whom everyone knew and loved. She made friends wherever her presence was made, whether in person or in online groups for patients with myeloproliferative diagnoses, in which she was very active. She was always there to listen and provide support and words of encouragement to anyone and everyone.
She enjoyed gardening, shopping, decorating her house, watching every episode of George Lopez over and over, and spending time with her family, including her beloved yorkie, Sophia.
Peppe dedicated her life to cancer research by participating in several medical studies, speaking at panels, and creating online support groups for other patients and their families.
She thought the world of her doctor, Srdan Verstovsek at MD Anderson, who has been by her side since her diagnosis. Without him, she would not have made it past the two to five years she was originally given.
She is survived by her husband and companion of 32 years: Gary Comeaux of New Iberia; two sons: Michael Breaux (Erica) of Youngsville and Garrett Comeaux (Brittani) of Lafayette; three grandchildren whom she loved more than life itself, Grace Breaux, Hayden Breaux, and Gabriel Comeaux; seven siblings: Lennis Fryou(Patricia) of Morgan City, Doris Fryou (Louis) of Amelia, LA, Frances Albert (Johnny) of Loreauville, Darlene Fryou (Sanders) of Abbeville, Norma Broussard (Kendall) of Youngsville, Frank Parlow III (Veronica) of San Antonio, TX, and Clint Arceneaux of Gibson, LA; and an aunt: Liz Gahn (Johnny) of Patterson, LA, who was like a sister.
She is preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Fryou, guardians, Homer Belanger, Ervin Belanger, and Wilbur Belanger, and mothers-in-law, Joyce Sonnier Comeaux and Myrtle R. Perez.
Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, New Iberia, LA 70560, 337.365.3331, is in charge of the arrangements.
