New Iberia - Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, October 29, 2007, at St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia for Waldo "Nook" Bonin, better known as "The Boudin Man", 85, who died on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at his residence in New Iberia. Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery in New Iberia. Rev. Fr. Jude Halphen will officiate at the funeral Mass. A native of Jeanerette and longtime resident of New Iberia, "Nook" was a butcher and was renowned worldwide for his traditional and unique boudin that he made for everyone to enjoy; therefore, he received the nickname of "The Boudin Man". "Nook" is survived by his two daughters, Anna Belle Bonin and Melissa Bonin, both of New Iberia; one brother, Louis Bonin; two sisters, Margaret B. Parent and Evelyn B. Duhon; and one grandchild, Emile Legendre. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Delahoussaye Bonin; his parents, Haywood and Euphemie Broussard Bonin; five brothers, Hudson, Dalton, Leroy, Jim, and Richard Bonin; and one sister, Myrtle Bonin. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd. in New Iberia, from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 28, 2007, and continue at 8:00 a.m. on Monday until time of service. A rosary will be recited by Jimmy Wilson at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening. Honored to serve as pallbearers, are his family and friends. The family wishes to express an extra special thank you to his care givers Agnes, Jo, Carolyn, Lisa and Hospice of Acadiana. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Ste. 200, Lafayette, LA 70503, or to the Episcopal School of Acadiana. Family and friends are invited to write and bring their favorite "Nook" story. Pellerin Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.
