Parks - Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, January 3, 2009, at St. Louis Chapel in Parks, for Wallace Joseph "Wayne" Charles, 64, who passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Wayne, as he was better known by his family and friends, attended Parks Elementary, graduated from Carver High School and completed 2 years at Southern University in Baton Rouge. He faithfully attended Masses at St. Louis Chapel and St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Parks. Wayne was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching any type of sporting event. He had a way with telling stories and jokes and loved making people laugh, but his passion in life was to chauffeur people to their destinations. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Priscilla Ledet Charles, of Parks; one son, Francis Potier, of Parks; three daughters, Rachel Ann Rivera and her husband, Marco, Inez Marie Kasimba and her husband, Patrick, all of Houston, TX, and Melissa, of Abbeville; one brother, Henry Charles and his wife, Elsie, of Houston, TX and Parks, LA; two sisters, Doris Wiltz and her husband, Sedric, and Gertie Hardy and her husband, Preston, all of Houston, TX; and three grandchildren, Madisyn Carter, Myles Carter, and Mayan Rivera. Mr. Charles is also survived by his godchildren, Yolanda Lewis and Demetrick Hardy, and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Ida Johnson Charles; two sisters, Mazel Benjamin and Ida Mae Charles; and four brothers, Adrain, Clarence, Lawrence, and Horace Charles.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home in Breaux Bridge from 7:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Saturday.
A rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
