New Iberia - Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 20, 2018, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia for Walter J. DuBois, Sr., 88, who passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2018, in New Iberia.
Entombment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery in New Iberia.
Rev. Ed Degeyter will be the Officiant.
A gathering of family and friends will be at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, and will continue on Thursday from 8:00 am until 10:00 am.
A rosary, led by the Nativity Rosary Group, will be prayed at 6:30 pm on Wednesday.
Walter J. DuBois, Sr. was born in Avery Island, LA on February 24, 1930 to the late Drozin and Antoinette Broussard DuBois. He was a 1950 graduate of New Iberia High School, and proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. DuBois was a longtime member of Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church. He worked in the oilfield his entire life, having been Owner and President of DUBCO Wireline until his retirement in 1997. He was an avid hunter and golfer. He golfed everyday except Sundays, but he would still practice after church. He also loved to travel. He and the love of his life, Billie, were members of the Crusin' Cajuns for many years. Some of Walter's greatest memories were made when he and Billie traveled the United States, Canada, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
Mr. DuBois is survived by sons, Walter J. DuBois, Jr. and wife Debra of Alexandria, and Jeff DuBois and wife Cynthia of Broussard; a brother, Lloyd DuBois of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Jonathan DuBois and spouse Dominique of Spring, TX, Brandon DuBois and spouse Erin of Houston, TX, Katie DuBois of Lafayette, and Alex DuBois and spouse Katie of Broussard; great-grandchildren, Evangeline DuBois, Scarlett DuBois, Eliza DuBois, Everleigh DuBois, and Nathaniel DuBois; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. DuBois was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Billie Jean DuBois; siblings, Fernand DuBois, Emerite Landry, Fernest DuBois, Electa Renard, Junius DuBois, Leona Rodrigue, Nolia Trahan, Maude Hebert, Mathilde DuBois, and Joseph DuBois, Sr.; and his stepmother, Selena "Granny" Thibodeaux DuBois.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan DuBois, Brandon DuBois, Alex DuBois, Lenny DuBois, Michael DuBois, and Walter LaBauve.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
