Rynella - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM, on Monday, January 19, 2009, at St. Marcellus Catholic Church in Rynella, for Walter Paul Peltier, 81, who passed away on Friday, January 16, 2009 in New Iberia. Interment will follow in the Broussard Cemetery at Bayou Petit Anse. Rev. Donovan Labbe will be the Celebrant. Readers will be Rosemary P. Brasseaux and Dorothy P. Theall. Gift Bearers include Phett K. Peltier, Lyndsay P. Vella, and Brooke Elizabeth Boudreaux. Born on June 3, 1927 in New Iberia, Mr. Peltier is a graduate of St. Peter's College, and is a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked at the Avery Island Salt Mine for Akzo Nobel for 36 years and then for Carbo Ceramics. Mr. Peltier also worked 15 years for Himel Motor Supply as a delivery driver. He was a member of the American Legion Post 335, Woodmen of the World, the Knights of Columbus, and was active in the American Cancer Society. Mr. Peltier loved horse racing, delivering parts for Himel's, eating out on Saturday nights with his family, frying meat pies at La Louisiane Banquet Hall, and watching the news. He dearly loved spending time with his family who he deeply cherished. Survivors include his children, Wayne P. Peltier and wife Rachel Guillotte Peltier of Lafayette, Janelle Peltier Boudreaux and husband Godfrey "Butch" Boudreaux, Jr. of New Iberia, Walter P. Peltier, II and wife Amy Pauley Peltier of New Iberia; sisters, RoseMary P. Brasseaux and husband K.J. of New Iberia, Dorothy P. Theall and husband Edgar of Erath; brother, Louis A. Peltier and wife Dolores of New Iberia; grandchildren, Rhett K. Peltier of New Iberia, Lyndsay P. Vella and husband Lucas of Lafayette, Brooke Elizabeth Boudreaux of New Iberia; great granddaughter, Adley Grace Vella of Lafayette; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Armine Bourgeois Peltier; parents Claireville P. and Rose Bodin Peltier; brother, Allen A. Peltier; sister, Florence P. Migues. Pallbearers will be Wayne Peltier, Walter Peltier, II, Rhett K. Peltier, Louis Peltier, Butch Boudreaux, and Chris Veillon. Honorary Pallbearers include Perry Bourgeois, Sr. and Allen J. Bourgeois, Jr. A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday from 3:00 PM until 10:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 PM Sunday. Visitation will continue Monday from 8:00 AM until 1:15 PM. The family would like to give special "Thanks" to Acadian Ambulance, Dauterive Hospital Emergency Room Staff and ICU Staff, Dr. Darvin Hales, and Dr. Shelly Savant for their extraordinary and compassionate care.
