Walter Adam Thibodeaux was born to Walter Joseph and Zulma Peltier Thibodeaux on July 15, 1926 and was raised in St. Martinville alongside 9 siblings. He worked on the family farm and grew up in simpler times in the country. When he was 17, he joined the US Navy to serve his country in WWII. He spent 2 years in the Pacific on the Marshall Islands acting as a French interpreter and guiding ships safely through naval mines. After returning home, he worked 36 years for Texaco, then worked several more years in the oilfield. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunting dove, ducks, squirrels and rabbits, fishing in the local waterways, cutting grass, tending to his fruit trees, watching hummingbirds, and of course, vegetable gardening. His garden was the talk of the neighborhood and he enjoyed sharing that passion with his brother, Ronnie, his children and grandchildren. Walter was the oldest living sibling and was lovingly known and referred to as "Uncle Brother" by all who knew him.
He is survived by his children, Guy Allen Thibodeaux (Roxane) and Phyllis Thibodeaux (Allen Armentor, Jr.); brother, Ronnie Thibodeaux (Patsy); grandchildren, Stephanie Thibodeaux, Stacy Thibodeaux, Aimee Dugas, Andre Breaux and Brandi Segura.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Claire Thibodeaux; parents, Walter and Zulma Peltier Thibodeaux; siblings, Jeanette Thibodeaux, Russell Thibodeaux, Lillian T. Druilhet, Chickley Thibodeaux, Roland Thibodeaux, Sadie T. Duplantis, Helen T. Hebert and Lenora "Mama T" Thevenet; and the mother of his children, Patricia Oubre Thibodeaux.
Honorary pallbearers will be Roland "RJ" Robichaux, Tommy Borel, Matt Capritto, Stephen Meaux, Harley DelaHoussaye, Allen Armentor, Jr. and Sean Thibodeaux.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Alyson Champagne RN and the other nurses and volunteers from Hospice of Acadiana for their compassionate care during the last days of his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Acadiana.
