New Iberia A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Friday, September 26, 2014 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in New Iberia, for Warrdell X. Gerhart, 76 who died Wednesday, September 24, 2014 in New Iberia.
A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Thursday.
Msgr. Richard Greene will officiate.
A native of New Orleans and a longtime resident of New Iberia, Mr. Gerhart was born on November 6, 1937 to Warrdell Gerhart, Sr. and Remas Dupuy Gerhart. He attended S.L.I. and proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was the owner and manager of the Iberia Credit Bureau, (Information Services of La.) and Gerhart Enterprises. Mr. Gerhart served on the La. Association of Business and Industry, several State, National, and International Trade Associations related to the Credit Bureau and Collection Service Industries.
Mr. Gerhart was very active in his church, Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in New Iberia, where he served as a Lay Minister, and Chairman of the Bishops Services Appeal. He was also a member of the choir and the Budget and Finance Committee.
He was a former member of the Iberia Parish School Board, where he had served as Chairman of the Finance Committee, former Board Chairman of the Mt. Carmel Academy, and former President of the Evangeline Guidance Center. Mr. Gerhart was a member of the Greater Iberia Chamber of Commerce, where he served two terms as Board Chairman. He was a past Board Chairman of the Iberia Industrial Development Foundation, and Co-Chairman of the I-49 South Task Force for Iberia and Lafayette Parish. He also served on the Boards of United Way, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, New Iberia Jaycees and the New Iberia Kiwanis.
Survivors include his wife Joy Romero Gerhart of New Iberia; daughter, Stephanie G. Breaux and husband Jon of New Iberia; grandchildren, Alex and Madeline Breaux; and his twin sister, Edell Welch of Lafayette.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
