New Iberia – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 pm, on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, for Warren Nelson Hunter, 65, who passed away on Monday, February 26, 2024. Interment will follow in Beau Pre Cemetery, in Jeanerette.
Rev. David Furka will be the Celebrant.
Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 am until 1:30 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home.
Warren was born on August 17, 1958, in New Iberia, to the late Charles Nelson Hunter and Rita Mae Thibodeaux Hunter. A 1977 graduate of Catholic High, he was a devoted individual who worked 30 years at Schlumberger. Warren was a man known for his unwavering dedication to his career and close relationships with his coworkers. His commitment extended even beyond his retirement as he maintained strong connections with those he worked alongside.
Throughout his life, Warren faced numerous health challenges with remarkable courage. Over the past 24 years, he bravely navigated through two heart transplants and a kidney transplant, showing immense strength and resilience in the face of adversity.
Beyond his professional life and health struggles, Warren's true passions lay in the simpler joys that life had to offer. He found great delight in food and was especially fond of cooking, showcasing his love through flavorful creations. Additionally, he cherished moments spent fishing. A dedicated supporter of LSU sports, Warren's enthusiasm for the team brought him much enjoyment over the years. However, above all else, he treasured the time spent with his grandsons, William and Henry; their presence brought him immeasurable joy.
Warren’s storytelling and recognizable laugh will always be treasured and remembered. His memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew him. The impact of his unique kindness and unwavering determination will continue to inspire all who were touched by his presence.
Survivors include his daughter, Brandy Hunter Bernard (Ben Michael Bernard); grandsons, William Michael Bernard and Henry Charles Bernard; brothers, William Charles Hunter (Kathy) and James Phillip Hunter; sisters, Katie Marie Hunter and Carla Dworaczyk (Dennis); loving stepmother, Carolyn Grigsby; former wives, Denise Dartez Hunter and Machelle Hunter; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Warren was preceded in death by his brothers, George John Hunter, Ted Joseph Hunter, and Jack Albert Hunter.
Pallbearers will be William Charles Hunter, James Phillp Hunter, Zachary Charles Hunter, Jeffery John Hunter, Rickey Melancon, and Keith Labauve.
Warren’s family would like to give special thanks to the transplant team at the University of Texas Medical Branch, especially his longtime transplant coordinator, Karen Kislingbury, PA, as well as his angel care givers, Machelle Hunter, Elaine Lawrence, Sharlene Gumbs, Janet Shallow, and Nina LaSalle.
Rest peacefully, Warren Nelson Hunter—your legacy lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known you.
