New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia for Wayne Richard Trahan , 72, who passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2018, in New Iberia. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Rev. Mark Derise will be the Celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday from 8:00 am until 1:30 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home. A rosary, led by the Mens Rosary Group, will be prayed at 11:00 am Tuesday.
A longtime resident of New Iberia, Mr. Trahan was born on October 20, 1945 in Cameron, to the late Dudley Trahan and Lorita Migues Trahan. He began working as a paper boy at 12 years old, and then at the age of 15, he started working for Davis Refrigeration. When Mr. Trahan turned 21, he purchased Davis Refrigeration and then opened Wayne Trahan Refrigeration in 1966. In the 70s he opened Cajun Mobile Homes, and then ventured into the apartment rental business. He was co-owner of TJs Daiquiri, Tops Landing, and then Big Chief Liquidators.
Mr. Trahan enjoyed spending time on his houseboats, eating with family and friends, having breakfast at Mels Diner, playing the video poker machines, and being on the James Trahan Cooking Team.
Survivors include his son, James Trahan and wife Kristine of New Iberia; granddaughters, Jenna Trahan, and Emily Trahan; brother, John Trahan and wife Gay of New Iberia; half brother, Larry Landry of Venice; fiance', Elizabeth Roberts of New Iberia; special friend and secretary of 40 years, Paula Prince Dooley of New Iberia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Linda Freyou Trahan; brothers, Dudley Trahan, Jr., Willard Trahan; sister, Linda Sue Trahan; grandparents, Lenaire "Slim" Migues, Eunice Migues, Levay Trahan, and Adelyene Trahan.
Pallbearers will be James Trahan, Will Trahan, Larry Verret, Steve Freyou, John Trahan, Sammy LaPorte, Nash Scott, and Steve Cordova.
Honorary pallbearers include Lawrence Verret, Elizabeth Roberts, Jenna Trahan, Emily Trahan, Paula Prince Dooley, Donnie Akers, Stephen Devillier, Terry Decoux, Ryan Sonnier, Kevin Oubre, Michel Fox, and The Friday Lunch Group.
The family would like to give special thanks to Bridgeway Hospice, Dr. Malad, Brandy, the staff of Lafayette Cancer Center, and to Elizabeth Roberts for taking such good care of him.
