New Iberia - Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 19, 2010, at the Pellerin Funeral Home Chapel in New Iberia, for Wesley John Landry, 82, who passed away on Friday, April 16, 2010 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Reverend Roland Fontenot, Pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, will officiate the services.
Wesley, a resident of Iberia Parish, was the son of the late David Landry and Una Deslatte Landry. ; He was born June 26, 1927 and was raised as a share croppers son along with his younger brothers. He left the farm at 18 years of age and successfully served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1944-1948. Upon his return, he married Rita Bonin Landry in 1948 and she served as his wife and soul mate for 62 years until her time of death 6 weeks ago. Wesley worked for Pecots Appliance and LaSalle Gas Company until he and his wife owned and operated Landry Gas Company. Wesleys gas company served LP gas to the farmers and residents of Iberia Parish until 1966. He then retired from Ashland Chemical Company in Ivanhoe, Louisiana. He enjoyed playing music with his all his music buddies, gardening, and helping all of his friends and family with any project they were involved with.
Survivors include one son, Justin Wayne Landry and his wife Jenny of New Iberia; two daughters, Becky Landry Toups of New Iberia, and Peggy Landry Pope and her husband Ron of New Iberia; one brother, Hardy P. Landry of Hardy's Floors; 8 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Harold D. Landry.
Pallbearers include Hardy Landry, Davey Landry, Curt Landry, David Landry, Shane Toups, and Tom Brantley. Honorary Pallbearers include Mildred Curtis, Reverend Fontenot, Dr. James B. Falterman, Jr., Mr. Charlieville, Asia Stein, Ronald, Clifford, Buddy Pope, Tyler Toups, Harry Courville, Rogers Dugas and all of his music playing buddies.
A gathering of family and friends will be on Sunday April 18, 2010 from 4:00 PM. until 8:30 PM with a rosary being recited at 7 PM. Visitation will then continue on Monday April 19, 2010 from 8:00 AM until time of services.
The family would like to thank to Dr. Flaterman, Dr. Renaldi, and the medical staff at Iberia Medical Center for the exceptional medical care provided for Mr. Wesley. Also, the family would like to extend a special thanks to his care takers, Amber, K.T., Rose Breaux, Gail Cain, the Cyberknife Center, and Hospice Compasses.
