St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 7, 2019, at Notre Dame Catholic Church for Wesley "Sue-Sue" Lewis, 80, who passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2019, at Iberia Medical Center.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Notre Dame Catholic Church from 7:00 am until 9:30 am on Saturday.
Rev. Michael Sucharski, SVD will officiate at the Funeral Mass.
Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Wesley, better known as "Sue-Sue", was born in St. Martinville, Louisiana to the late Isreal Louis and Grace Mason Lewis. Sue-Sue was a member of Knights of Peter Claver #54 for over 25 years, was a former Deputy Grand Knight, and was also a member of the American Legion Post #419. He proudly served in the United States Army for 6 years. Sue-Sue worked for the St. Martin Parish School Board for 22 years, LA Workers Union, and Queen of Peace Cemetery. Sue-Sue was a faithful parishioner of Notre Dame Catholic Church, where he served as an Usher and an Altar server. He enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, watching game shows, attending church, and being involved in the community of St. Martinville. Sue-Sue will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Louella Johnson Lewis; son, Bryan Lewis and wife Danielle of Kathleen, GA; brothers, Isreal Washington and wife Lillie Mae of Bakertown, LA, Ronnie Louis and wife Carolyn of Baldwin, LA, Irvin Louis and wife Deonne of Centerville, LA, and Hilary Lewis and wife Geniveve of St. Martinville, LA; sister, Joyce Louis of Franklin, LA; five grandchildren, Ian Lewis, Elyse Lewis, Paris Lewis, Quinton Lewis, and Kai Wesley Lewis; and one great grandchild, I'Myah Lewis.
He was preceded in death by his father, Isreal Louis; mother, Grace Mason Lewis; and his sisters, Grace James and Stella Mae Darby.
