Wesley was born June 2, 1923 on the Atchafalaya River about 5 miles southeast of Butte La Rose, Louisiana. His parents, Anatole Serrette and Marie Guidry Serrette, had a home, a store, a fish dock and an ice house.
A veteran of WWII, he served as a sailor in the Pacific theater and was proud of his service for our country. He was involved in 8 major battles and many lesser ones as well. A display case full of medals and pins speaks of his honor and valor. He later earned a masters degree and went on to work in the public school system, from which he retired. His love for the Atchafalaya River was a lifelong love. He spent many years as a commercial fisherman who also loved to duck hunt and spend as much time as he could at his camp.
The greatest joy in his life was his beautiful wife Hazel Usie Serrett, to whom he was married for 68 years, as well as his two children, his two grandchildren and one great grandchild. He will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Diana Serrett Davis and her husband, Jeff of Many, LA; his grandchildren, Mikey Davis and Christina Faust and spouse Jared; great grandchild, Audrey Marie Faust.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Usie Serrett; his parents, Anatole and Marie Guidry Serrette; a son, Richard "Dickie" Serrett; brothers, Milton Serrette, A.J. Serrette, Nolan Serrette, Jessie Serrette, and Clifton Serrette; and two sisters, Yola Collette and Ella Mae Keith.
Pallbearers will be Mikey Davis, Billy Serrette, Jeff Davis, Craig Collette, Calvin Serrette, and Kenny Serrette.
