Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, February 17, 2006, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge for Wilbert Pierre Johnson, 88, who died Wednesday, February 15 2006 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Entombment will be in St. Bernard Cemetery No. 1 in Breaux Bridge.
Mr. Johnson was a bodyman at Louisiana Motors for 13 years, prior to becoming the owner and operator D & J Motors and Johnson's Auto Repair Shop in Breaux Bridge until his retirement in 1980. ?He helped build the Henderson Levee after the flood in 1927 and worked on the family farm and also made cane syrup. ?He loved fishing, camping and gardening. ?He was a past member of the Crawfish Campers Association.
On February 24th he and his wife, Hazel, would have celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Hazel Hebert Johnson of Breaux Bridge; his sons, Paul Johnson and his wife, Gale of Mire, and Steve Johnson and his wife, Elaine of Breaux Bridge; his daughters, Elaine Thibodeaux and her husband, Wilbert ""Papit"", and Verlie Theriot and her husband, Leroy, all of Breaux Bridge; his sisters, Essie Robin of Breaux Bridge and Pearl Tauzin and Eve Fontenot, both of Lafayette; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Angelus and Virginia Courville Johnson; his infant daughter, Helen Johnson; his sister, Agnes Daigle; and his brothers, Aldus and Whidley Johnson.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 a.m. ~ 10:00 p.m. on Thursday and continue at 7:00 a.m. on Friday until time of service.
A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening.
Pallbearers will be Keven and Chris Thibodeaux, Shawn, Troy, Paul and Steve Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Theriot, Clovis LeBlanc, Louis Robin, and Adley Johnson.
Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge is in charge of arrangements.
