A native and lifelong area resident, Mr. Barrilleaux was born on March 7, 1924 to Wilfred "Pete" Barrrilleaux and Clara Dionne Barrilleaux. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy (1941-1945) during World War II, and was a retired rural letter carrier from the U.S. Postal Service with 38 years of service. He also during that time repaired fiber-glass boat hulls. His seamless repair was comparable to factory finish. Mr. Barrilleaux enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends. Although Mr. Barrilleaux lived his life a meek man, his boxing ability in the Navy earned him the nickname of Uncle Bill. After the death of his loving wife, Joyce, he shared a special friendship with Phyllis Cook Broussard, whom his great-grandchildren lovingly named her Mother Goose. His healthy life exemplified loving loyalty to his children, grandchildren, family and friends whose company was enjoyed and appreciated. For decades he could be seen with his Pekingese puppy in his arms or on a leash for their daily walk. Together man and mans best friend had daily walks until Mr. Barrilleaux was 86 years old, ceased only by Old Man Time. He lived in an era when a mans word was honored and a hand-shake guaranteed a positive outcome. He believed a man with no word had nothing. When he would spend time with his friends or family he always greeted and entertained them with one of his favorite songsAlan Jacksons Little Bitty. Dad sang whole heartedlyMight as well smile, life goes on for a little bitty while. Survivors include his children, Robert J. Barrilleaux and companion Liz Phillips of Grapevine, TX, Barbara B. Landry of New Iberia, Ann Barrilleaux Viator and husband Gerald of Breaux Bridge; grandchildren, Jodi Barrilleaux Sernich and spouse Steffan of Mandeville, Brett Barrilleaux and spouse Barbara of Seattle, WA, Dawn Landry Alleman and spouse Tony of New Iberia, Craig Landry and spouse Dawn of New Iberia, Keith Viator and spouse Tori of Baytown, TX, Laura Viator Bienek and spouse Gil of New Iberia; great grandchildren, Annelise Sernich, Mia Sernich, Luca Sernich, Avery Barrilleaux, Owen Barrilleaux, Carley Landry, Kourtlyn Landry, Brodey Landry, Emmi Alleman, Chase Viator, and Emily Bienek.
