New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Monday, November 27, 2017, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia for William Deets Thorne, 68, who passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, in Lafayette.
Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, with Military Honors by the Iberia Honor Guard.
Rev. Bill Melancon will be the Celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home. A rosary, led by the Men's Rosary Group, will be prayed at 6:30 pm Sunday. Visitation will continue on Monday from 8:00 am until 9:30 am.
A native of Alice, Texas and a longtime area resident, Mr. Thorne was born on April 23, 1949 to the late Donald and Nora Cleveland Thorne, and proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy, during the Vietnam War. He worked for Dashiell and enjoyed spending time with his family and his baby girl "Bella".
Survivors include his wife, Gayle Touchet Thorne of New Iberia; sons, Ryan Thorne and wife Misti of New Iberia, Robert Thorne and wife Michele of New Iberia, Jeremy Watkins and wife Nicole of Fort Worth, Texas, Grant Thorne and wife Shannon of Broussard, Kevin Thorne and wife Deanna of Walled Lake, Michigan; brother, Donald Thorne of Houston, Texas; sisters, Debbie Romero and husband Mayo of New Iberia, Sharyn Stanley and husband John of Shangaloo; grandchildren, Triston Thorne, Tanner Thorne, Tyler Thorne, Lawren Thorne, Hanah Thorne, Gaige Thorne, Nicholas Watkins, Luke Watkins, Andrew Thorne; mother-in-law, Barbara Touchet of New Iberia; sister-in-law, Brenda Stevens and husband Kyle of New Iberia; brother-in-law, Terry Carlin of New Iberia; his beloved dog, "Bella"; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Robert Thorne, Ryan Thorne, Kevin Thorne, Grant Thorne Jeremy Watkins, Ross Stevens, Jason Stevens, Brett Carlin, and Donald Thorne.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Willis Touchet, sister-in-law, Karen Carlin; and a niece, Kylie Stevens.
