Private services will be held at a later date for Willie Mae Marie Melancon Gary, who died Monday, June 4, 2013 at 12:30 AM in New Iberia. Mae was married to Claby Joseph Gary, and they enjoyed life together for 67 years. ; She was blessed with four children, Melvin Gary, Linda Gary Hebert, James Gary, and Melissa Gary Louviere. ; She is survived by five grandchildren, Shawn Gary, Ross Gary, Jamie Hebert Planchard, Jacob Gary, and Jenna Louviere, as well as seven great grandchildren. ; She was preceded in death by her son, Melvin Gary, her parents, Corine Leblanc and Samuel Melancon, and her four sisters, Olive Thibodeaux, Winnie Covington, Gernie Migues, and Jerry Dean VonDette. She enjoyed singing in the choir at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church for 10 years, was a volunteer with Council on Aging for 21 years, taught line dancing for 11 years, and once a month for four years she and friends loved entertaining the residents of local nursing homes. ; She was a Life Member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 1982, New Iberia, La., and a member of the Cajun French Music Association (CFMA). She enjoyed dancing, traveling, gardening, sewing, crocheting, bowling and she has visited Las Vegas 14 times! ; She was a very energetic spirit who lived life to the fullest. ; She always said 'never put off until tomorrow what you can do today.' ; Mae passed away at Belle Teche Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Iberia where she had been a resident since November, 2012. ; The Gary family would like to extend a very special thanks to the staff at Belle Teche and especially her nurses and her CNAs who truly have a special gift of caring and who so lovingly cared for Mae. ; We would also like to thank them for looking after Pop every day when he visited.
